How to get people on a forums?

I apparently don't know any good ways to get people on the forums and start posting. I'm sure a great deal of people would love to hear your suggestions of getting people onto forums, so lets hear it!

What's funny, is I'm not advertising at ALL! I just tell people

A really good way is to get tons of... apps and stuff linked to. That way when people visit they don't think its just about the community and that theres lots of stuff to download too We need to take like an hour and find a nice collection of stuff, upload them and post them.
