From G's to Gents is an MTV reality television series that features misdirected young men willing to change their lives and become gentlemen.[2] The show is hosted by Fonzworth Bentley, and premiered on MTV on July 15, 2008.[3] The objective of the show is to make the transformation from a roughneck to a sophisticated gentleman within the given time. The second season, From G's To Gents 2, premiered on February 10, 2009.
The contestants are called "G's" as a colloquialism for gangster (commonly pronounced "gangsta"). The contestants vote for the elimination of other participants in the game. The voting is accomplished by the contestants secretly voting with the use of a black sphere being deposited in a box that is titled with the name of an opponent.
The use of an "ebony sphere" is meant as a metaphor for the term "black ball", which is to give the impression that the contestants are vying for admission into an exclusive club, similar to a university fraternity, or private men's club.
Each Black Ball in a contestant's box will result in that contestant having a high chance to be eliminated. But Mr. Bentley holds the final decision to who gets eliminated. Sometimes Mr. Bentley may eliminate one, two, or maybe three contestants in one episode. There may be an occasion where Mr. Bentley does not eliminate a single contestant.
